How much can you enlarge an image?
Four times each side, so sixteen times the pixel count: a 500 x 400 image becomes 2000 x 1600. That is the model's native scale factor, and it is where the reconstruction looks best.
Bigger is not always better. Above roughly 4 megapixels a source is already detailed enough that upscaling adds size without adding much you can see, and the result becomes an unwieldy file. PhotoRise reduces the scale factor rather than producing something nobody wants, and tells you before it starts.
Why upscaling normally looks soft
Classic resampling — bicubic, Lanczos and the rest — can only interpolate between the pixels that exist. Every new pixel is an average of its neighbours, so an enlarged edge is a blurred edge, and no amount of sharpening puts back detail the file never held.
A super-resolution network was trained on millions of pairs of small and large images, so it has learned what fine structure tends to look like at higher resolution. It predicts plausible detail rather than averaging, which is why hair, fabric weave and small text come back rather than just gaining contrast.
Your image stays on your device
PhotoRise has no upload endpoint. The enhancement model is downloaded to your browser once and every pixel is processed in a worker inside this tab, so your image is never transmitted anywhere, never written to a server, and never seen by anyone. Close the tab and nothing remains.
Two numbers are counted so the project can show how much it is used: that a page was opened, and that an enhancement finished. Both are increments on a shared counter with no cookie, identifier or address attached, and nothing about your image is included. See exactly what is counted.

Questions
Can you upscale an image without losing quality?
Yes, in the sense that matters: the result is larger and sharper than a resampled enlargement, because the missing detail is predicted rather than interpolated. It is not the same as having photographed the scene at that resolution, and no tool can make that claim honestly.
Is there a limit on image size?
PhotoRise reads files up to 40 MB. Upscaling runs on sources up to about 4 megapixels on a desktop and about 1.4 megapixels on a phone, because the model runs on your own hardware. Larger images are cleaned up at their original size instead, and the app says so before you start.
Does upscaling work on logos and line art?
Reasonably well. The model sharpens edges and removes compression fringing, which is most of what a rasterised logo needs. If you have the original vector file, exporting it at the size you need will always beat upscaling.
